About the EYFS Framework

Children possess innate readiness and eagerness to learn. Development requires positive relationships and enabling environments to thrive. The EYFS framework ensures children learn, develop safely, and gain school readiness plus foundational knowledge for future success.

Four Guiding Principles

Our practice is shaped by four core principles:

Each child is unique, constantly learning, capable, resilient, confident and self-assured

Children develop strength and independence through positive relationships

Learning flourishes in enabling environments with individualised experiences and practitioner-parent partnerships

Children develop at different rates; the framework supports all learners, including those with special needs

Seven Areas of Learning

The EYFS curriculum covers seven key areas of learning and development:

Personal, Social & Emotional Development — builds positive self-concept, relationships, respect, social skills, emotional management and confidence

Communication & Language — provides rich language experiences to build expression, listening and speaking skills

Physical Development — enables activity and interaction; develops coordination and movement; promotes healthy choices

Literacy Development — connects sounds to letters, encourages reading and writing through diverse materials

Mathematics — develops counting, number skills, calculation and spatial understanding

Understanding the World — explores physical environment and community through people, places, technology and nature

Expressive Arts & Design — encourages media exploration and creative expression through art, music, movement and design
